[voice;; monday afternoon]
Hi. [ he's not sure what to say, so he goes with regulation; he clears his throat, his tone going official. ]
My name is James T. Kirk, and I'm Captain of the Federation starship USS Enterprise, [ he falters: ] not that that... really matters here, I guess. [ a half-hearted attempt to return to sounding official: ] I got here- "woke up" --roughly two nights ago, and, [ and it falls apart. ] I've gotta say, for a city in the middle of what was reportedly a bountiful forest, I'm feeling underwhelmed by the cuisine here. Is there any place around here to get something good? I'll eat just about anything, I just [ he laughs quietly. ] ...can't cook. I can hunt if I have to, but I'd rather go with someone until I learn the basic lay of the land.
Mm, and while I'm here, I need to get a job or something or I'm going to go insane, so if anyone needs a fully-trained starship captain...? I'm your man.
Thanks. [ awkwardly, because he's not sure how to end this transmission: ] Kirk out.

If you like fish chowder or raptor steaks, I can give you directions to a few spots, but I do most of my shopping from the market near the town hall.

[ and then he perks up a bit: ] I'll try anything once. Lay it on me.

How is a space captain unable to cook food?
no subject
i dont have to cook because we have replicators.
[ he usually doesn't have to type manually either. ]

Even at home?

My name is Jane Foster, and I'm an astrophysicist. It's a pretty standard way to arrive here, waking up in the ship.
[voice ==> video]
Yep, starship captain. Of the flagship, even. [ SWAGGIN ] I have a place to stay and everything, I just don't want to keep relying on these guys once I'm up on my feet.
[ video]
Oh! The flagship? I'm impressed. And good, you're taken care of, even though you do seem to need a little extra training. You did arrive at a really good time, though. When I first came here, it was a little apocalyptic. Now it's recovering apocalypse with some much needed tech upgrades. We had a small time shift and well, the timeline changed events.

Starship? That sounds fascinating!
[ The only 'starships' she's ever known of are, quite literally, ships made out of stars that people used to ride across the galaxy. ]
I wish I could help you more about some food but I'm afraid that's something I'm not very familiar with. [ The perks of not having to eat. ]
no subject
youre not familiar with food?
no subject
I don't need to eat, after all.
[ Because that's totally not weird at all, right? ]

[ that name sounds familiar. she knows him or something, that's pretty obvious- he wonders if she works on the ship. ]
I wasn't aware you were here. I know Bones is around somewhere but I haven't seen him for more than maybe six minutes at a time, so I figured I was just on my own.

I've been working with the local sheriff's office, a lot of the training seems to transfer. You're Doctor McCoy's captain, aren't you? I think he's mentioned a Kirk. I'm Commander Shepard, Alliance Navy.

I think that's the name of the ship he gave me.

[Rule #425436: Always take the piss out of your friends where appropriate. Bones is at the hospital by his backdrop, and looking entertained.]
There are a couple taverns in the market district if you're looking for them. Still wouldn't call if five stars, but you seriously can't cook? I thought you just stole my leftovers at the Academy because you have a questionable sense of personal boundaries.
no subject
That's me, the dainty one. No, I can't cook. Why would I know how to cook? Do you know how?
no subject
[Which doesn't mean to say that he had much time for it, or, as it turns out, for the marriage in general, hence the past tense, but Kirk doesn't need to know that.]
Besides, you're the damned genius intellect. It's nothing more than applied chemistry.

would you like to log this or keep it here? or handwave it? whatever is fine by me =w=
I'd like to log it, but would you mind setting up the log? My brain is well-gnawed by this heat...
I can do that =w=
