Hi. [ _{he's not sure what to say, so he goes with regulation; he clears his throat, his tone going official.} ]

My name is James T. Kirk, and I'm Captain of the Federation starship USS Enterprise, [ _{he falters:} ] not that that... really matters here, I guess. [ _{a half-hearted attempt to return to sounding official:} ] I got here- "woke up" --roughly two nights ago, and, [ _{and it falls apart.} ] I've gotta say, for a city in the middle of what was reportedly a bountiful forest, I'm feeling underwhelmed by the cuisine here. Is there any place around here to get something good? I'll eat just about anything, I just [ _{he laughs quietly.} ] ...can't cook. I can hunt if I have to, but I'd rather go with someone until I learn the basic lay of the land.

Mm, and while I'm here, I need to get a job or something or I'm going to go insane, so if anyone needs a fully-trained starship captain...? I'm your man.

My name is Jane Foster, and I'm an astrophysicist. It's a pretty standard way to arrive here, waking up in the ship.

[ _{he chuckles a little, turning over to video to smile.} ]

Yep, starship captain. Of the flagship, even. [ _SWAGGIN ] I have a place to stay and everything, I just don't want to keep relying on these guys once I'm up on my feet.

Oh! The flagship? I'm impressed. And good, you're taken care of, even though you do seem to need a little extra training. You did arrive at a really good time, though. When I first came here, it was a little apocalyptic. Now it's recovering apocalypse with some much needed tech upgrades. We had a small time shift and well, the timeline changed events.

[ _{he listens to her carefully, still smiling wide.} ]

No offense but the whole thing still looks pretty apocalyptic, considering what I came from. [ _{a beat.} ] What do you mean, time shift? How severe were the changes? [ _{because THIS is something he knows a few things about, alternate timelines and changed events.} ] Were they palpable?

It's gotten better. [Jane notices the change in tone, and leans forward, her eyes lighting in excitement]

Well, there was, I think, a few streams of time. We were all tossed into a particular one. I went back in time before the Domes were complete, and things weren't at war. They had regular travel to Antiqua, even. I haven't gotten all the data yet, and I really should, now that things have gotten back to a state of normalcy. Anyways, yes, the changes were palpable. I've been here before, but went back into the pods and yet still remembered being here when I came back out. So, to have things be more comfortable and with better access to essentials and not being thought as being worthy of being kidnapped or shot, I would say yes, there was some changes. I'll have to chase down the info.

There are always multiple streams of time.

[ _{he furrows his brow, thinking.} ]

Multiple univereses. Infinite universes, actually, but that's not important and it's mostly a theory still. Mostly. Can you move freely between the time streams here?

Of course. Time isn't one river, it's many. I'm well aware of that. You've had experience with the rivers crossing before I presume?

Yeah, unfortunately. I'm kind of living proof that time isn't linear.

[ _{an uneasy little smile.} ]

So it is possible! It's all theoretical back home, but well, now I know that the theory is sound and proven. If you don't mind, maybe sometime we can meet and you can tell me about it?

Sure, yeah. Sounds great. It gets a little complicated in the middle but it's definitely easy to understand.
