Video: Wednesday, Week 41: HOW DO I BUSINESS?

[Neville looks rather frazzled as well as being... rather upset about something]

Briar is gone.

[He takes a deep breath.]

That's bad enough, but we have this plant shop and he was really the one who knew anything about how to actually run it. I'm decent at growing plants, but I've only been selling them for a few weeks now. I could... really use some help. I don't think I can run it just on my own.

It was definitely paper. Briar's not much better with computers than I am. I know we have an account.

[Banks! Banks are familiar! Kinda.]

People have woken up before.

[So that's... one up on some alive but not there people...]

The basic principles should be fairly simple for you to learn, in that case. None of the math involved is particularly difficult. What you want to do, essentially, is keep track of how much you're making and how much you're spending.

Do you know how to access the account? Can you access it without your friend?

[People seemed to disappear often enough that maybe banks planned for that sort of thing when shipfolk opened accounts now]

That... doesn't sound so bad.

[It was a lot though. An awful lot. So he doesn't exactly sound confident.]

We set it up so we both could. In case... anything happened.

There are definitely worse things in life than accounting.

A lot of them.

Do you know how to send directions using the communicator? I live at the Flop.

Uh... just three streets south then. And then head east until you reach the shop with the big tree sign.

[That's the same as sending them, right?]

The big tree sign. I think I can manage that.

We tried to make it as clear as possible. There's a big garden out back too.

That makes sense. I'll be there shortly.

[She'll find him actually successfully selling some herbs to a customer. Mostly through sheer earnestness.]

[He's actually kind of endearing in his awkwardness in a Simon Tam sort of way. She looks around the shop while waiting for the poor kid to stumble through his sale. Briar must have been the one who handled this normally.]

[Neville smiles at the customer. He figured that much out at least]

[And then he turns to Inara]

Hi. Thank you so much for offering to help.

Bú kè qì, we're all in this together. Neville, right?

[He gives her a puzzled look at those first words. What are those even?]

Yeah. Neville Longbottom.

[She's only had moderate luck with attempted handshakes so far on this planet, but she extends a hand to the boy anyway]

Inara. I'm guessing that the shop is as new as the economy?

[He shakes her hand. He knows his manners]

Yeah. When we got back, we didn't even know where we lived.

That must have been difficult. I think I'm lucky to have arrived later.

Do you want to show me the ledger?

I'm not sure there's really a good time to wake up here.

[He reaches below the counter and pulls it out. Everything is recorded, though categorization is a bit lacking]

[It's odd to see a ledger done left to right and one or both of the boys have terrible penmanship, but the basics are here.]

It would be smart to sort your expenses by category. It'll be easier to see where you spend the most.

[Why didn't he think of that?]

That would make sense, wouldn't it?

You have most of the basics here, and the rest should come to you more easily with experience. It shouldn't take too long to get this organized.

Are you doing any advertizing right now?

A couple places. Mostly with the farmers we knew before.
