[Video] Monday, Week 45.

[Capa's made it through a quick tour and has got himself a place (and a jacket) at the Flop. But he's been restless, so he's been wandering about, trying to get his bearings. Might as well figure out what this whole communicator thing is about.]

After staring at the same seven people for fourteen months, I was beginning to forget what other people looked like. And after spending my life with a dying star, I was beginning to forget what a real sun was like.

I'm still not sure if I'm dead or alive, but either way, I'm starting to think that this might be a good thing.

It didn't really take long to figure that out, either.

[Capa takes a moment to tilt his head up, towards the sun, before he's back on to his communicator. And he's straight to the point.]

I got the tour and I know there are others out there. I'm just hoping I'm not talking to myself here.

Oh, I was following. I'm an astrophysicist. I work primarily with dark matter. So a lot of my work is...theoretical.

If you haven't run into Tony Stark yet, I think you're going to have a new best friend. As much as there's anyone heading up repairs and investigation of the ship, that'd be him.

I... well, I'm spec ops with some crossover into the tech side of things. My knowledge of dark matter's pretty general. Dark energy, on the other hand...

[Kaidan generally aims for an unassuming air, quietly and competently getting things done. Sometimes, though, a little bit of showy demonstration is called for, and he does so in the form of calling a flickering barrier of biotic energy to coat his raised hand.]

I actually haven't. I'll have to remember the name.

[Forgive him while he looks and sounds rather like an excited little boy.]And...dark energy, huh? How did you get into that?

[Showboating accomplished, Kaidan huffs a laugh at himself and lets the biotic field dissipate.]

Ah... prenatal exposure, actually. Dust form element zero, since my mother happened to be in the right place at the wrong time when a shuttle's drive core blew. And if your reality hasn't discovered element zero... well, to explain it would take a while, but let's just say that one of the really interesting things about this whole falling through the multiverse thing is that I've now met four separate independent kinds of FTL travel beyond just how my reality does it.

It's hopeful, in a way. Humans will get to the stars one way or another, right?

[While a little disappointed when the field disappears, Capa is definitely interested in the rest. At least until that last line. He looks away, keeping his expression from showing anything.]

They will. Even if it takes a while. The human race is resilient. We'll figure it out. My reality hasn't discovered that yet, but they will at some point.

Well, maybe when we all get back where we belong, you can jump science forward a bit... but in the meantime, we're pretty much crying for a good physicist on the ship problem. We had Dr. Banner and Dr. Foster as part of the team, but they both got pulled back into stasis in the pods within a few days of each other.

It's... interesting, [In the questionably-provenance'd ancient Chinese curse sense of the term, if his tone's any indication.] working with a team of brilliant people who might, at any point in time, just not show up again in the morning. Makes me write down pretty much everything I do, for one.

That's...unfortunate. But it does give you a chance to hear new views on the same problem, which is sometimes more beneficial.

Like I said, I'd be happy to help. Just let me know what I need to do. I'm not really the kind to sit around.

Get yourself settled first, I'd say. If nobody's told you already, there's free room and board for Ship people in Poseidon, at a building called the Flop. It's pretty utilitarian, but it's clean and a good place to find your feet.

Once you've done that... well, look me up, or Stark, or one of the other folks poking at Salvation and we'll give you the tour and then you can grab a piece and get to work.

Uh, assuming that's what you're wanting to do. Some people get off the ship and decide they'd rather poke at local culture.

I've been there already. I have a place to sleep that isn't much different than what I had before.

But I do need to get my bearings first. This thing can will come in handy if...oh. I didn't get your name.

Ah... wow, I'm off my game not to catch that.

[Kaidan rubs one hand at the nape of his neck in a gesture that looks as habitual as it does mildly embarrassed. (Or perhaps he's habitually mildly embarrassed.)]

Kaidan Alenko, and I don't think I got yours, either.

Dr. Robert Capa. Just...Capa, though. Heard that for two years. 'Robert' just sounds odd.

I get that. No problem, Capa, just let me know when you're ready to go.

Or if you need a lift out to the Ship. I've got a motorcycle if you don't mind riding double.
