[Video] | Tuesday night
Good evening, everyone.
[Here's Lyall, dressed in jacket, hat, waistcoat, and cravat, back to slightly more traditional Victorian dress. Why? Because he has to be at his new place of employment in an hour, and he is going to dress nicely for his first day (or month) as a librarian. It seems fitting, after all.]
I have been thinking. I do know where I found those monster constructs, before... and from what I gather, the ones battled and damaged here were not those same constructs as the ones I fought. And there was a fellow last week who caught sight of another one on his surveillance which was perhaps one of the remaining two, or perhaps a third. There is still a threat from them, should they come back this direction.
They are too much for me to handle alone-- I am well aware of this, even were I not taken by surprise, as I regret to say I was. If I were not alone, however, it is possible I and anyone with me could do some damage. If anyone else is interested in coming with me, perhaps we might be lucky and corner one or two in their lair, and remove more of this threat.
I will have my communicator with me all evening, but if anyone wishes to speak in person about this, I would be happy to discuss things at the library in Poseidon, in a few hours.

Well, if blowing things up is effective with these monstrosities, young miss. Did you interact with them, the previous time they came calling on Poseidon?
But if you have need of me, and would like me to go along with you, I offer my services. At the very least I could guard your back.
[He reads other people's network posts, even if he doesn't necessarily reply, yup.]
I'm not afraid to die but I prefer to know it be for a worthy cause, and in a manner that will actually make a difference.
[He likes gadgetry, and to some extent things that go boom, as well. Especially if they cause some damage to the beasts that killed him.]

[That does give him an idea, though.]
If we had some manner of explosive we could lodge in their actual bone structure, however, perhaps that would be of some use.
[He takes a moment to try and think if he's heard of that word before.]
I'm afraid I'm not familiar. It must be something either from a further time than mine, or from... your own world.
[Because yeah, mun just realized this is video, and Lyall really should be wondering about the funny face there. Let's just say he only just looked at the person talking to him... and is now trying not to stare. He's polite, though, so he's doing a fairly good job at it.]
Handheld explosive devices. And no, they're not unique to turian space.
[There's a thread of drawling humour there, ever so slightly edged.]
I'm pretty sure every species capable of actual warfare's come up with them, at one point or another.
I come from Earth in eighteen seventy-five. We do have some explosive weaponry, but nothing by that name, and most is not capable of being handled by hand without some form of barrel to launch it from.
But it does seem an interesting prospect. I assume, by your comment about getting clear in time, that they cannot be detonated from a distance?
There are small charges that can be detonated remotely, but if you're trying to blow up something that can fight back, you're still not going to have much margin for error.
[Said with a tone of someone musing rather than making a definitive statement.]
Though I imagine one large enough to actually damage one of these creatures would probably do me quite a bit of damage if I was too close. I will have to think on this. Provided I can even procure something of this nature.
A "small explosion" will blow one of your limbs off. Maybe you should leave the dangerous weaponry to people who are a little more familiar.
[He looks somewhere between embarrassed and affronted.]
The explosions I am used to are caused by gunpowder. Rather more endurable, at least for a werewolf. My apologies for the misunderstanding.
[Is there a tiny bit of sarcasm there? There's a tiny bit of sarcasm there. Just a tiny bit, though.]

Also possibly what gunpowder is.]
If it's that survivable at close range, it won't do much damage to something that would survive a cavern being dropped on it.
Unless you're familiar enough with these things to know their weak points?
no subject
I am a bit more capable of surviving damage than most, but you're probably right, something that would leave me intact would still probably not be strong enough. I'll have to ask around after something with a slightly longer fuse, as it were.
[He pauses.]
At least, I assume these grenades do not actually have "fuses".

Interesting. I actually have come across something like that here, albeit with gas rather than explosives. I doubt gas will do much good against these, but it does give a frame of reference.

[As proved by, uh, that face. Yep. Speaking of....]
I don't believe we have been introduced. Randolph Lyall, of London, England-- Earth. Eighteen seventy-five.

[There's a hint of dry amusement there. Garrus isn't entirely conversant with which Earth era is which, but serving on the Normandy means he knows enough of their history to make a guess at just how far back Lyall's claiming to be from.
Long before the Earth's first contact, that's to be sure.]
Garrus Vakarian, of Palaven. We don't use your calendar, but I have it on good authority that it was 2187 in Earth years, the last time we had a chance to check.

[He says it ruefully rather than with rancor, this time.]
So you are rather like a few of the others here, then. I believe we have at least three people who appear to be from around then, as well. Possibly not the same universe, or reality, or however such things shake out, but they might at least have more in common with you.

[It has the sound of an admission, if not - quite - an apology.]
Humanity's the youngest, in my time, at a little under forty of your years.

[He might not get the exact right spot, he'd have to see it, but he's sure he could get at least the right area.]

[He may not like Lyall all that much, but he likes the idea of more spiky murder monsters one whole hell of a lot less.]
no subject
Very good. Thank you. I'll see about getting a decent map and bringing it over, then.
no subject
[Which should come as a surprise to no one. With Pepper striking out for the other side of the southern mountains, he'll probably all but live there for the next few weeks.]

[And he will, once he makes a copy of a decent topographical map and gets off work. So he shows up around dawn, map in hand, to find the irritating but useful fellow. (Jump to action or fadeout/summarize? ^^ ) ]
