galacticheroine: (looking to the side)

005◢ VIDEO; SATURDAY / WEEK 54

[Shepard doesn't really use the network much. She doesn't have much against it in theory, she just isn't a huge fan of digital networking in general. She was always terrible at responding to emails back home, too.

Now, though, she's got some purpose for making a post, at least.]

So, I'm going to need some help tracking down my walking corpse. Generally I'm not crazy about risking unnecessary lives, and these things have proven dangerous, but the damn thing has my armor and one of my guns. I need them back.

Ideally anyone who comes with me to hunt it down should have full body armor of their own, because getting nicked isn't an option.

Let me know who is up for this, I'm looking to get underway asap.

Shepard?

[Garrus looks - and sounds, for that matter - a little dubious. Having the situation explained doesn't quite match up to seeing the evidence first hand.]

Aren't you tired of hunting down your homicidal clones yet?

Think of it as a group bonding exercise.

[Kaidan pops into the feed stream with a wry smirk and this deadpan suggestion that tacitly volunteers himself.]

All we need now are Wrex and all the guns in the world and it'll be just like old times.

A ship that size, there has to be an armory somewhere.

We'd just have to convince the ship that we weren't going to use it to blow holes in her. She's... touchy.

[The fact that EDI is prone to her own eccentricities helps frame Salvation a little. It doesn't help as much as one might hope, by the wry twitch of Kaidan's mouth at the corners.]

Great. Touchy AIs always work out well.

To be fair, we've had at least one person who woke up, heard it was an AI, and promptly did just that. I might be a little touchy too, if you shot a hole in me.

[Unaware of how he met his end in Garrus' reality, Kaidan makes the joke with innocent snark.]

I think when it comes to bone monsters, though, we can probably count on her support.

[Garrus's mandibles clip tight against his jaw, and the pause before he answers isn't overly long, but it's still noticeable.]

Humans. You'd think a little gunshot wound was the end of the world, the way you carry on.

Between the rocket to the face and the returning from the grave, I know when I'm beaten. You win, both of you. 'Beaten up by a killer robot' really doesn't stack.

[Kaidan raises his hands, conceding mock-defeat.]

But I'll look into weapons. I'm actually planning to see if the Authorities have any clean-up and containment tips we could adapt.

Smart man. I'll buy you a drink as a consolation prize.

[And maybe, with renewed practice, the familiar banter will stop feeling strained - at least, from his end.]

If they don't have anything, we might still be able to evac the area if we can pin the thing down. They can't be too happy about the thought of whatever this is spreading.

[personal profile] standsentinel 2014-02-12 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Not happy would be an understatement... especially since the only treatment for people exposed is quarantine and, if they can swing it, a more merciful death than the bone shards will give you.

[Kaidan's expression is hard to read, reflecting on his own half-remembered mortality as it is.]

We're the only ones with a potential get out of jail free card. And even that's not perfect."

Well, you might decide to blow up the cloning facility to shut down any more repeats.

I'll pass. I never managed to learn how to speak husk.

[Which, if he's not missing the mark on what these bone creatures are, seems close enough.

And isn't that just a terrifying thought?]

[personal profile] thulium 2014-02-09 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
We should probably be grateful for that. You can only hear "kill the squishy organics" so many times before it starts to get grating.

Let me know when and where you need me. From the sound of things, the sooner we get these creatures off the street, the better.

I'm in. Tell me whatever I need to know. I'm still upset I didn't get to take care of my own corrupt double, myself.

It doesn't strike me as the kind of thing one normally has to do very often.

How much of a problem, do you think?
