[video] Week 57, Wednesday

Anyone else interested in going on a little trip? I'm planning on visiting Ceres to see what's going on--you know, if people really are sprouting tails and dissolving.

Anyone else interested?

Preferably someone who can operate something called a 'vehicle', as Dr. Solus informs me that walking to Ceres is not preferable.

Not all of them, no. Heralds are the eyes, ears, and hands of the Queen. They do what she needs to be done in the Kingdom. All of them--including the Queen--only have what's best for others at heart. The Companions make that true, and each Monarch is required to be a Herald as well. Even the Monarch isn't above the law in Valdemar.

And no, we don't lock anyone up for what they were born as--only what they chose to be. If you choose a path of evil, then you brought it upon yourself and are left to the mercy of Lord and Lady.

There are no mages in Valdemar. There haven't been for at least 700 years. Vanyel was the last. But Valdemar has always welcomed mages--there were mages among the Heralds until they died out.

We're finding, though, that there are still mages elsewhere, and we aren't certain why the Mage-Gift no longer manifests in Valdemar.

Still, even if there were mages, there's no reason to throw them in jail simpy because they were born with a Gift. Havens, if that was cause for a sentencing, then I'd be seeing prison walls! And so would all of the Heralds. And the Healers. And the Bards. No, what you are is no cause for punishment. Only who you make yourself become.

Pardon my saying, but anyone who could do that to another human being must not be a good person.

Ah, no. As I said, there are no mages in Valdemar. But the Heraldic Gifts are enough like magic, I suppose, that someone who saw them and didn't know the difference wouldn't be able to tell. My Gift is ForeSight, though it isn't very strong. There's also FarSight, ThoughtSensing, Fetching, and Firestarting. Empathy too, I suppose, but that's typically a Healer's Gift. There's only one Herald with Empathy strong enough to be used as a weapon.

[That's...strange. But then, who even knew what magic could do anymore?]

I understand how horrible that is, but vengeance isn't the answer, either. It makes you no better than they are.

Alright. Until then.
