We don't have magic where I'm from. We haven't in at least 700 years. And that's long enough that the stories have started to overtake the truth.

No. There aren't any. The Mage Gift died out in Valdemar. Vanyel was the last.

No. We don't know what happened, but Mage Gift is gone in Valdemar, though, we are learning, it's alive and well in other places. Now, though, Valdemar only has MindGifts.

That's... a strange thought. Most Muggles don't know about wizards at home, but there are still people born with magic among them all the time.

It used to be that way in Valdemar. As I said, we don't know why there are no more mages.

Every time I think I have a handle on all these different worlds, a new thing comes up.

That must be frustrating. I don't think I'll ever figure out anything about other worlds.

I'm still not really used to living around people who mostly don't have magic though. There was a lot to learn all at once.
