[After another extensive but early night of skulking around bars, Wes has heard enough to bring it up to the rest of the ship people. And he doesn't look terribly happy with what he's heard.]

So, who else has been listening to the talk about these arrests? A lot of the local chatter... doesn't sound very good. If these arrests aren't on the up and up, the situations only going to get a lot worse.

[If they are arresting people for being against outside involvement it's likely to have the exact opposite effect of what they're going for.]

[Mal feels confident that his invitation to go talk about secret things at the local tavern is appropriately vague so he closes the channel and heads on out to meet his new gossip buddy.]

[They're getting pretty used to him around the bars. In Mayfield, the drones were starting to think he was a gun nut. Here the locals probably thought he was an alcoholic.]

Well, well. What a chance meeting, ain't it?

[Actually, he doesn't seem that surprised by the meeting at all. And look at that. He has a drink sitting there already waiting for Wes.]

Now then. To business.

I'm Captain Malcolm Reynolds. Only been here a short while but do I ever love to chit-chat about local discontent. Fought in a little resistance back home my own self, as a matter of fact.

[The name rings a bell. He's heard about Luke's house guest.]

Major Wes Janson. Only reason I stopped being rebel scum is that we're the legitimate government now. Luke used to be my commanding officer.

[The whole story is a bit complicated, but he's hitting the high notes.]

Didn't peg him for the type to get involved in a rebellion. [Mal also thinks Wes looks far too old to have someone of Luke's age as his commanding officer but he won't say that. He already seems to have far too much trouble making friends as it is.

Also, part of Mal is envious that Wes' rebellion won and Mal's didn't so they must have been doing something right.]

Well then. That makes things just a tad more interesting, don't it? Two gents from two war-torn backgrounds meetin' over talk of local stirrin's. Kinda poetical in a way.

Are you kidding? Luke was number one on the Empire's most wanted list for years. Well, still is, when he's from.
