[Molly's been keeping to herself/her little circle of mutants as much as possible for the past week. She really didn't enjoy having to talk to that person from the sheriff's office. Not that the person had likely enjoyed the experience any more than she had.

But at least it seemed like it was over.]

Can we all just stop talking about it now?

Have many people been bothering you?

People from the sheriff's office kept asking questions.

[She hadn't put any of them through a wall. But she had wanted to.]

I'm sorry. [She hesitates before adding this next part.] The Sheriff's office suspended any of us that were from the ship, after Luke. We had to be put through tests and "approved" in order to return to work again.

[She'd missed all that, since she was busy being dead at the time]

Everything was so weird.

Do you mean during all the time distortions, or something else?

When everyone was acting all weird. I know I was too.

Right. That. I was still...myself, but at times it seemed like I was in the minority. And I had a vision of sorts, from what might have become my future.

The other version of me wasn't very smart.

[Why did she go alone?]

You shouldn't have to pay for her mistakes, Molly. Berating yourself for what she did isn't going to help either.

But I can do things differently, because of it.

Yes. That's good, but...

[She's thinking of Loki, his every thought and action weighed by a darker self that may never come into being.]

You can still make your own choices, too. Not just because of her.

I should have found out what my limits really are a long time ago. I know they exist, but not how long. It's dangerous.

[It keeps getting her killed]

I won't always have people to pull me out.

Maybe not. But your friends will always try to be there for you, if they can.

We don't always have a say in that though. Not here.

You don't always have a say in that anywhere.

I've lost more people than some have ever known, Molly. But if all you have is yourself, then what's the reason for fighting any battle?

To protect the people who can't. And because no one else is going to do it for me.

[That one's easy]

[She has to smile, at that. Sometimes Molly reminds herself of a young her. This is one of those times.]

It is a good reason.

But it shouldn't have to be the only one.

People only seem to care about what things should be when they're all over.

[Don't go fighting your own battles. Because we didn't show up to fight them. How was that supposed to work?]

Not always. But you can't give up hope.

You're too young for that.

Funny how I'm only too young for things when there's not any danger.

Not so. But being too young to have to fight battles is never enough reason to stop anybody.

Figured that one out real fast. No matter how much people said we should have stayed out of it, once it was all over.

It's always easier for those that have not seen a battle, or had to fight a war, to theorize about what should be done differently from the sidelines. There is no place in combat for politics, or philosophy. There's only the hard truth of living.

I wasn't as young as you when I became a soldier, but I was young enough. I wanted to save my father's life. I wouldn't take back that decision now...but still, it changed me.
