[It takes Steve several moments of studying the communicator before finding its voice function. Though he's seen text and video, telephones are most familiar, and in a situation where adaptation is clearly necessary, his instincts take over. The devastation is obvious, and there were undoubtedly others with a more immediate need than he.]

This is Captain Steve Rogers of the United States Army. I've just arrived to this place, but I've been here long enough to collect what supplies I could from the ship. [At least, that's what it looked like.] If I'm reaching someone who knows how I can best help with reconstruction, let me know. If that's not possible, please direct me to someone who would know further details.

[ooc: If you want to direct him somewhere in the reconstruction log, go for it! I just wanted to get the ball rolling. :)]

[She's not sure if she's amused or appreciative that he followed the '(rank)(name) of (military branch)' format her last transmission started, but either way, he's got her attention.]

That depends, Captain. What kind of skills have you got to offer?
femshep: (relevent to my interests)

It's Shepard. [Not ma'am. Just Shepard.] Or Commander if you have to, but that's one I generally like to earn. And to be honest, I'm thinking we need a little of everything at this point. You're going to want to get in touch with my lieutenant, Kaidan Akenko.

[It occurs to her as she says it that he's not her lieutenant anymore--he's a major now, how could she forget?--but the word rolled off her tongue before she could think to amend it.

And honestly, she'd be more useful here if she were much involved in the rebuilding effort herself, but she's kind of. Babysitting a triceratops at the moment?]

That's, uh, Major Alenko now, Shepard. ...But I guess if we're going by role and not rank, it's accurate enough.

[Hi Steve, it's complicated. Kaidan's voice has a bit of a rasp to it, but it's friendly and forthright (and just a bit teasing in the commander's direction) all the same.]

Good to hear your voice, Captain Rogers. I'm out on the outer edge of the city right now, doing some SAR sweeps in an area with some building collapses. Population here's a lot thinner than the number of buildings would suggest, but if you're offering a pair of hands I could use them.
femshep: (uh. well. I. uh.)

Force of habit. [An apology, or as close to one as she's going to offer, but she means it.

Besides that, though, she'll keep her mouth shut and let Kaidan take over most of the conversation from here.]

I has a log thread up over at the link.

[personal profile] standsentinel 2012-06-26 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
Look for the blue energy flare around the house with the smashed-in front. Near the edge of town.

[Kaidan signs off then, a muttered curse escaping as a loud creak and a crash transmits across the audio before he does.]
abetterway: (Surprise)

[personal profile] abetterway 2012-06-25 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Please excuse her awed staring, Captain.]

Steve Rogers. That's...

That's very unexpected.

[She shakes her head, forcing herself to focus on the topic at hand, but the stunned, delighted grin keeps pulling at her lips.]

You've experience with search and rescue, I'm sure.

Doctor, actually. [It's an automatic response, and she chides herself for it; it's not important, right now, not really.]

There are people across the city trapped under varying degrees of rubble. I've been able to locate them, but there are only so many to send after them, and for most the debris is difficult to handle.

['Not for you' goes unsaid; she won't broadcast his abilities any more than she would anyone else's.]

Not at all, Captain.

[She frowns, shaking her head.] If there's a way to do so I haven't found it, but...I do know of another method.

[personal profile] abetterway 2012-07-04 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
It would. [It's still so strange, to say it freely; it had always been instinct to keep it secret, lest she be branded a threat, or dismissed as a monster, or used again.]

And I can promise you I don't pry unless circumstances demand it, though I realise a stranger's word isn't the most reassuring.

[A brief smile of surprised gratitude before she nods.]

All right. Relax, and clear your mind as much as you can.

[She focuses on the information she needs, before honing in on the Captain's mind. With the lightest touch she can manage, she's passing her knowledge on to him; all at once, he'll know where he's needed.]

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, next time could you keep your long-sleep-then-wake-up-sometime-in-the-future thing to yourself? It's sweet that you wanted to share your experiences, but it actually kind of sucks, so...
1811k: (im - suited up)

[personal profile] 1811k 2012-06-26 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
You could at least pretend to be happy to hear from me. Rude.

Anyway, I'm here, and so's Iron Man. Does that regard the situation enough, Cap, or do I need to spell it out for you?

Right 'sir'. Sitrep: ship's falling apart, life support's probably failing on the pods, we got fogs that make people crazy and a last week we had a fuckin' dinosaur stampede.

[Fast enough for you?]

[Sorry, Xavier is butting in with wry amusement.]

I haven't heard that in a while.

I don't suppose you'd consider that cooperating is more important than arguing over whose gun is bigger.

[personal profile] game_over_man 2012-06-26 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I try to parcel out the Hudson brand of awesome. You know, not to overwhelm the masses.

[W-wait. You look kind of hot.]

Oh, babes, trust me. That's no argument. Let's just say you don't spend any time in Uncle Sugar's Marines without realizing that clueless officers get men dead.

[Yes. Yes he did.]

[Anyone ever tell you how hot you are doing that huff thing?]

That's because the Army is made up of 90% wussies.

[Oh, yes. By extraordinary coincidence, they always seem to do something dreadfully embarrassing afterwards.] I'll be certain to tell that to the countless men I saw lay down their lives.

[personal profile] game_over_man 2012-06-26 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[So, what you're saying is....Hudson's your type. Because he does that too!]

OR! You could talk to the Colonial Marine who's still alive.

[video] perfect place, obviously (hah i figured, typos are tricksy things)

[personal profile] abetterway 2012-06-26 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's not as fun when they do it themselves.] Who has also, as of yet, failed to be very impressive.

[Well, you could always help~! ]

Impressive? Lady, you should have seen me take on an entire fuckin' herd of dinosaurs.

[And by 'taking on' he means 'running like a screaming flailing schoolgirl in front of them' but you don't need to know that.]

And how did you manage that?

[Hi Steve, have a rather bruised and battered teenager, who looks like he's on the verge of passing out.]

There are a lot of people and animals who are hurt, and buildings that need to be fixed.
asecondfaster: (asking questions)

[personal profile] asecondfaster 2012-06-26 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Ian shakes his head, offering Steve a tired smile.] I'll be okay. But I'm in the Old City, helping with the cleanup. There's ash everywhere, and a lot of dead animals that got trampled.

Has anyone explained things to you yet?
asecondfaster: (yeah that's pretty weird)

video

[personal profile] asecondfaster 2012-06-28 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
A dinosaur stampede, yeah. I know it seems pretty weird, but there's nothing about this place that isn't pretty weird. [Ian is clearly used to weird things, though.]

Anyway, I think the places you'll be needed most here or over by the ship. I can show you around, if you need help figuring this place out.
asecondfaster: (this ability is awesome for paintball)

I'm always proven wrong every time I think that.

The offer stands, unless someone beats me to it. [psh, whatever, he can totally take care of himself.]

[Liara's even voice carries just a hint of weariness.]

The damage appears to be the worst in the western and southern sections of the city. In addition to people who have been trapped or injured in the rubble, there appear to be several packs of scavengers to contend with. They are unlikely to attack if you are uninjured and armed, but they may see any wounded as prey.

[There is a brief pause in her recitation.]

I would advise staying clear of the north-eastern border of the city. The patrols there are fairly aggressive.

I am glad to hear it. The people here need all the help they can get.

[Her slight frown goes unseen, but colours her voice when she explains,] They guard the domed city. That they work for its government is clear enough, but we are lacking intelligence on the specifics of their hierarchy.
relicrebellion: (Consult my notes)

[Audio]

[personal profile] relicrebellion 2012-07-04 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Their patrol perimeter appears to extend several kilometers beyond the edge of the dome. There are, however, periodic scouting sweeps that range further, and they have staged raids on this settlement in the past.

If you require specifics on their more aggressive activities, I would advise speaking to Commander Shepard for a first-hand account. Their last raid occurred before I awoke from stasis, and the archives only tell so much.
