Experiment 001 // Video;
[so have one curious looking Jane Foster, recently woken up and in the ship]
All right, this is interesting. I seem to have found myself in a pod in a crashed ship, and frankly, that doesn't look like Earth tech. And need I add that it looks like somebody went trigger happy with the terraforming? It looks a bit desolate out there.
My name is Jane Foster, and so, um, who's out there, and what is going on?

And Lehnsherr's under the mistaken impression that rallying troops on the public network and bringing the Authorities down on our heads is a good idea.
We're taking bets on whether he gets himself shot before or after he runs out of steam.
[...She sees you, Hudson, hitting on the new chicks again.] ...Also? As much as I'd like to let you learn for yourself, I have to warn you: Hudson probably couldn't keep you safe from much more than a wet napkin.

[a small smile] What are the odds?
[she pauses, and nods] Like I told him, I can handle myself.
no subject
[What are the odds, you ask?] Not sure. The term 'full of hot air' is coming to mind, and if that's the case, my bet's on 'shot'.
[She'll leave the Hudson bit alone, since Jane seems to have told him off well enough on her own.]
no subject
[why do people have to be so stupid. :|] And messily, I presume.
no subject
It's a safe presumption, yeah. [Especially if they know what Erik can do and arm themselves accordingly. She's not going to say that, though. No use dooming him, he's already bringing them down on his own head as it is.]
no subject
So. Note to self. Try not to make oneself a target by being an idiot and or painting a target on one.
no subject
...She does, however, think you could say 'one' a bit less. But she'll go with it.]
Straightforward enough, I'd say.

Then I'll be sure to do that.
We're working on it. Kinda hard to keep it tea-party ready with the dinosaur stampede.
Don't worry, though. I'll keep you safe. [WINK.]
[eyebrow]
Dinosaur stampede. Do tell.
[You will come around to the Awesome that is Hudson, chiquita.]
That's pretty much it. Dinosaurs. Stampeding.
Don't worry, though. I led them away from the city.
[If screaming and flailing counts as 'leading'.]
[one word: Thor. You have some competition, boy]
How did you do that? Last I heard, any sort of stampeding creature can't be controlled. [skeptic science] Of course, this is taking it into account that dinosaurs are dead, but then again this isn't Earth.
Good to hear. Just remember, the Colonial Marines are here to serve.
[What's Thor got that Hudson doesn't? Besides the cape. And the stupid hammer. And the ABS OF THE GODS. Seriously. Hudson's got, uh, other stuff!]
Yeah, well, there's a lot you don't know about dealing with xenos. My specialty.
[Thor has Jane. But, you're interesting right now, since she's pinged by xenos.]
Nasty bastards, most of them.
And the one that aren't? We shoot anyway. Just in case they get ideas.
[Ah, Marine humor.]
[she huffs]
Give a person a gun and their brain shrinks, losing all sense.
[He does the 'Earth protecting' around here.]
[Hudson just snorts, but deducts at least 5 cuteness points.] Yeah, ain't never heard that attitude from a civ before. Strange how happy they are to see us when the shooting starts.
[and is she supposed to be impressed?]
I haven't had any evidence to the contrary.

But I was speaking of cultural patterns, and the fact that it quite often takes repeated exposure to learn how to deal with something particularly difficult.

[Aside from their shared status as Adjunct Partner To A SHIELD Member, Pepper doesn't really know the younger woman all that well, but she's got a knack for faces, and in this setting a familiar one is a welcome one.
She's looking a little less perfectly-polished than usual, hair back and half escaping from a ponytail, but the fact that she's calling in against the backdrop of some swirling activity is pretty darn Potts.]
It's turning into a convention -- Tony and Steve are here as well.
[Jane's just a bit startled. She knows of Pepper and Tony, thanks to TV and the news, but that's the extent of her knowledge.]
Re: [Video]
[Pepper trails off then, and looks faintly embarrassed as her assumptions catch up to her.]
Well, in any case, there are people from our world and time here. There are also a lot of, um, other complications. The ship is alien, and we're on a planet called Verdana. No-one's really sure when it is, except some time significantly in the future.
[she nods]
Verdana, and sometime in the future. Got it. I take it nobody stays near the ship?
Re: [Video]
[Pepper twitches an escaped lock of hair behind one ear, and actually answers the question put to her.]
Most people seem to find some place to stay in the city -- there are a lot of ruined or abandoned buildings, some in better shape than others, and a lot more than the population of the city needs. Um. If you need a place, I've found one near the hospital.
I'll appreciate it. And how will I find it?
Re: [Video]
The hospital's actually located underground -- remnant of some war-era design, I think...
[And insert some directions, as precise as Pepper can make them, and including things like 'turn right at the third collapsed building'.]
Just ask where I am when you get here.
There shouldn't be any problem in getting from the ship to the city, is there?
There are only about 1500 people here, rough estimate, so the streets are safe through being deserted. Pick your favourite post-apocalyptic city setting and you've pretty much got it.
Re: [Video]
[Pepper looks briefly pained, but also faintly amused.]
If you're talking about the private first class with an inflated sense of his own charm, I am so sorry. I'm thinking a rolled up newspaper might be in order...
I'll look for you at the hospital, then. See you soon, Jane.
[she nods]
See you soon, Pepper.
