[The video shows Daniel, in a cleared area surrounded by some underbrush. There's a large partially-butchered mountain goat, of all things, hanging from a tree by its horns behind him. The light shifts on Daniel's face, and the reason is clear when he turns the communicator to show a low, steady fire, with a pot held above it by a rough but sturdy cooking crane. Some half-chopped tubers and wild onions can be seen on a flat stone nearby.]

Hey. I can't eat all this. Anybody who wants some, feel free to drop by. I'm over here, [brief directions on how to get where he is from the City or the ship.] Follow the smoke or call me back if you have any trouble finding me.

You girls are too skinny, get over here.

[It's quite a change to hear someone call her skinny instead of fat. Not that Chell believed those AIs when they called her that, but still. It's a change. Beyond that, she really has no opinion on it.

She figures out how to make her call private in return.]

I have rice and bread.

[Basically she doesn't understand why anyone would share.]

You still need protein. Bring some over, stew is best with bread to dunk anyway.

[Because it will go bad if people don't eat it, that's his story and he's sticking to it.]

[She stares at the screen curiously.]

Like I said, I can't eat it all, and I don't have the tools to preserve it. There's no point letting it go to waste.

[Have a slightly perplexed slightly amused slightly weirded out Claire looking at you.]

..Is that a goat?

[yup, it's kind of weird.]

Wild mountain goat, despite the absence of immediate mountains. But it's tasty.

[Weird is right. Claire pauses, considering.]

Okay. It probably can't be any worse than what I've been eating. Probably.

..I'll be over soon. [Short nod, as if she's still convincing herself to go despite already saying yes.]

[Skeptical look and a near-smile.] We'll see, I guess.

[makes a little shooing gesturing, encouraging her to get going.]

[Okay that gets a real, brief smile out of her, then she's rolling her eyes and cutting the feed.]

You could have preserved it, had rations for later.

[he shrugs]

Game isn't scarce. I haven't had time to build a smoker yet, and I can't afford enough salt for all of it. If you have access to either, I'd be happy to cut a deal in exchange for a share of it.

[A headshake.] Guess that's fair enough--I don't have any, either.

You're still welcome to come by. And if you want to help build one later, I wouldn't say no.

Think I accidentally volunteered for guard duty already, but I'll see what I can do.
