[ So there's this girl chilling out on some rock outside right now. She ventured out a little to try to get an idea of where she is, but... ]

As unlikely as this is, I have to ask- Did I timeslide in my sleep? [ She looks around warily at the landscape. She looks a little confused, but mostly annoyed as she addresses the video again. ] Not that I can without a time device of some sort, but this looks like the places I grew up in.

[ A pause. ]

Or did Bete Noire get a remodel while I was away? [ Because that's the only other option here really.

Behind her a large dog pops up to nuzzle at her, making her nearly fall and drop the communicator as she tries to shove it off a bit. Just enough so that she doesn't fall before she's reaching out to hug the big ball of fur. ] I'm leaning towards nuclear apocalypse in Bete Noire that somehow The Dog survived right now.

Anyone want to give me the real details? Thanks.

Bete Noir? [Jocelyn was listening with rueful concern until that. That's the city Erik mentioned, and the surprise is clear on her face.]

...You've been abducted, I'm afraid. We don't know how or why, simply that they had a very big spaceship and a great deal of time on their hands. [There's an edge of frustration to her voice. As always, not knowing is frustrating.]

You're on a world called Verdana. I couldn't begin to guess where it is, in relation to the city you resided in; it might well be a different universe entirely.

[ As much as she should be surprised...... she's really not. ]

Dimension jumping. Pretty much as bad as time-sliding. [ She sighs and ruffles The Dog's fur. ]

Is there a place for shelter here or is it every man for themselves?

[She offers a slight smile.] I can't say I can make the comparison.

There's a city east of the ship. It's a bit worse for wear, however. [She eyes the dog with curious amusement.] And I don't know the Flop's policy on pets.

[The levity fades from her features, then.] You'll want to keep your head down, as much as you can.

[ Head down while carrying a dog that may or may not be allowed? Sounds doable. ]

Might as well try the city. If it doesn't work out... I know how to manage anyway.

What's the threat here?

[She has faith in you.]

I'm glad to hear it. [She's quite sincere, though there's some wistfulness to her words. She's meeting entirely too many people entirely too young to know such things.]

The Outer Authorities - the enforcement of the Domed City. You'll catch a glimpse of it soon, no doubt.

They wear masks and protective suits. They'll usually be in hovercraft.

[ It is a little tragic that. ]

Weird enforcers from a weird city in glass. Got it.

Human or other?

It's difficult to say. They appear humanoid, but their suits cover them entirely and their masks shield their minds.

[She's smiling again, despite herself.]

You're taking this extraordinarily well.

[ Mmm. That leaves much to be desired. Maybe she needs to get her hands on one of these authorities... She'll deal with that after her initial needs are met.

But she nods her head slightly. ]

I've lived in terrain like this, it's not a huge surprise. Bete Noire was also the center of the multiverse or something. I didn't really care, but I at least know about other dimensions that kidnap people.

[Concern creases her features, just for a moment before she lets it go. She doubts this one has much use for it.] So I've heard. Were you there long?

[ Now she has her attention. ]

You know Bete Noire?

I was there for a year.

[She nods.] We've another abductee from there. A friend of mine, actually.

[She hesitates, then, because frankly Erik make enemies wherever he goes - but she'll realise he's here regardless, and if she's an ally...

All the same, her voice lowers.]

Do you know Erik Lehnsherr?

[ Now Hope is really perking up. Her hands on The Dog stop as she focuses on the video. ]

[Her brow furrows at that. She's not certain how to make the distinction, or how much the girl knows.

With a wry fondness...] I don't suppose "arrogant and stubborn" narrows it down.

[ Now she makes an amused look. ]

That's every Erik in every dimension ever.

[ Little more serious. ]

Did he mention blowing up a tower? [ Being hopeful here. ]

[She mirrors the expression, for a moment.] Quite possibly.

[And then just. A flat look.] He did not. That, however, doesn't mean it didn't occur.

...I'd like to ask you something, but this network isn't entirely secure. [She raises her fingers to her temples, raising her eyebrows. If she knows Erik, chances are good she knows an Xavier or two, so she might recognise the gesture.]

[ Well.

This is a new one. Not what she was expecting. ]

Xavier?

Ah, so we've met. [A wry smile.] So to speak.

The version I know best was old, bald and definitely a guy.

[She feels this is more amusing than it truly ought to be.] Well. That's one out of three.
