Hailing Frequencies Open (audio)

[Spock has been fiddling with his equipment for a while, going over his tricorder readings and such. On a whim, he decides to try his communicator, even though it is totally illogical. After all, no one would be there to answer, if his theories are correct.]

This is Spock calling Enterprise. Come in, Enterprise.

[His brow furrows slightly as he looks at it. He could have sworn that at various points he had heard noises, possibly speech coming from it, but that was impossible, after all.]

Spock calling Enterprise. Lt. Uhura, Captain Kirk, do you read me?

[He sighs then puts it aside, but leaves it open. Why he does it, he does not know. Perhaps it is the hopes of a familiar voice coming from it. Or any voice, really. But why should it?]

[A bit surprised when the communicator jumps to life, he is even more shocked to find that it now receives video as well. A video of a metallic face. Clearly, not a normal communicator. He arches an eyebrow in amazement.]

Lost would imply that I am unaware or unsure of where I am. I am neither. How I arrived here, and the reason for such, however, are less clear.

Who is this?

Oh ah...

[Man he sucks at this whole social thing.]

I'm Drift? I just got here as well. Did you wake up in that ship?

[Drift. Ordinarily not a word one would use for a name, but then, he had discovered once that "Spock" had multiple meanings in multiple cultures.]

I did. 4 days ago. It would seem to be a fairly regular occurrence from what I have discovered. It is... disconcerting.

Yeah. "Disconcerting" would be putting it lightly. I'm not sure if your friends are here, but I can keep an optic out for them. If I hear anything I'll let you know.

Oh- uh. Sorry. Rude of me. Your name was...?

Forgive me. I am Spock. And yes, if your... optics do happen to come across anyone from Starfleet, it would be greatly appreciated if you could pass along the message that I would like to speak with them as soon as possible.

[Now that he realizes what the communicator is capable of, seeing the metallic face is less shocking. But still odd.]

You've recently awakened, I take it?

[Spock doesn't even notice. He is used to people being confused by Earth idioms.]

There seemed to be a minimal risk involved. And yes. I awakened, or whatever the appropriate terminology is, approximately four days ago.

My name is Spock. And who do I have the pleasure of addressing. [No sense in giving out unnecessary information yet.]

Four days? What have you done for four days?

[Wow, Wing thought he kept a pretty good optic on the ship, but he's missing newcomers lately.]

I'm Wing. Cybertronian.

I have been... exploring, primarily. Gathering data on the planets and its indigenous lifeforms. It seemed the logical thing to do, gather information before acting, since there appeared to be no immediate danger.

[He thinks for a moment. He is unaware of any planet or race using that name.]

I am Vulcan.

[Technically, half, but since he identified primarily as such, there was no need to muddle things any more than he had to.]

You are an android, I take it?

[Have a mid-30s human with silvering dark hair and a uniform that's certainly not Starfleet. (It has things like pockets.) Kaidan's expression is skewed crookedly wry as he looks into the video pickup.]

No Enterprise, or a Lieutenant Uhura, but we do happen to have a guy named Kirk running around.

I can give you an explanation of what's going on, but I should warn you it's both patchy and hard to believe.

[Spock's eyes open wide when he hears the name.]

Jim?!

[Collecting himself after a serious outburst of emotion, he finally continues.]

Any explanation you can give would be immensely helpful, of course. And do you happen to know where this Kirk would be?

[He tries to calm himself. After all, it might not be the same Kirk. But the fact that it might be gives him great hope.]

Hey-- you all right there?

[Kaidan doesn't have real live Vulcans running around where he's from, but the shift between calm to emotive doesn't really need familiarity with them to peg as atypical.]

Finding people here that you already know isn't uncommon -- I woke up around the same time as a friend, and our old CO was already here. Here, in this case, is a planet called Verdana. They seem to have or have had some sort of spaceflight capability in the past, since they're apparently in an inter-generational war with a sister planet called Antiqua, but the hostilities aren't really open at the moment -- the population retreated behind large energy domes, and they stay there, by and large, and reserve their shooting for the people, like us, who are outside of them.

[He pauses then, waiting to see how this introductory information will be absorbed before adding more.]

Your friend Jim's been working to lead an expedition out to some old ruins.

[Spock is thoroughly embarrassed by the emotions he just displayed and is understandably flustered.]

I am fine. Kirk and I are... close friends, and hearing that he might be here momentarily excited me.

[He contemplates the information he has just received, and is relieved to find that this planet has acheived spaceflight, so the Prime Directive will not be an issue. Although he still feels he must be cautious about what he shares with the locals.]

Do you have any estimate as to how long the expedition will be gone?

Hasn't left yet.

[The smartest course for dealing with that flustering, Kaidan decides, is just to move on ahead and pretend it didn't happen. (It works for him, after all.)]

They're due to pull out in a few days, but if you can't pin him down before that, they'll probably keep their connection to the communication network while they're away -- people who've taken trade trips out to the nearest port have stayed in the loop. Although...

[He pauses for a moment, adjusting some setting on his end, by the abstracted look on the screen.]

The Outer Authorities -- the enforcers for the totalitarian regime that's going on inside the dome -- do monitor the public broadcasts on these devices. So don't say anything critical across the feeds.

[Bruce frowns a little] If the people you're trying to contact don't respond, we can try searching the names on the pods to see if they're here. Regardless, welcome to Verdana. I'm Dr. Bruce Banner.

[Spock finds it highly unlikely that they would be found, although he chides himself for not even noticing if his own name was on the pod he'd awoken in.]

Thank you, Dr. Banner. I am Commander Spock.

[At least, he assumes that's how the name is said. He looks human, and that tends to be the norm for humans.]

The people I am most interested in finding would be James Tiberius Kirk and Leonard H. McCoy. I've been told that James Kirk is already here?

[He would be thankful for any of his comrades, of course, but those are the ones he wishes to see most.]

[Bruce offers him a small smile.] Nice to meet you, Commander Spock. I haven't met this Jim Kirk of yours or a Leonard McCoy, but I haven't been here very long.

What is the "Enterprise", if you don't mind me asking?

[It seems that, even if the planet itself seems pre-warp, there are enough beings here that are aware of the ship, therefore the Prime Directive might at least be suspended. Besides, for some reason, Dr. Banner seems the trustworthy sort.]

The Federation ship U.S.S. Enterprise, registry NCC-1701. It is the ship I was stationed on as a member of Starfleet.

[Okay, Bruce is impressed, and a little envious. Even though he is technically already working on a spaceship. But it's not the same thing at all.] Out of curiosity, what year is it for you? There are people from several different points in time here.

[Having already met someone from Earth's 19th Century, this news does not surprise him at all.]

By Earth reckoning, the year is 2270.

[The Stardate would be meaningless to him, even more so than the Vulcan year.]

And yourself?

[He estimates late twentieth century, but that is only an estimate.]

2011. Just after the Chitauri invasion, if that means anything to you. [He doubts it, but anything is possible here.]

[Spock raises an eyebrow.]

I... do not recall reading about such an invasion in my studies of Earth history. It would appear we have much to discuss.

[It would also appear that there is more than just temporal displacement, but likely even dimensional displacement. Fascinating.]

[Bruce has the same theory.] It's possible that we're familiar with entirely different versions of Earth. Or it was edited out of the history books. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised.

Agreed. It would appear that, at least here, many things are possible that we have never considered before.

...Has anyone told you about the dinosaurs yet?

[The Doctor offers a wry smile.]

I doubt they'll receive you, I'm afraid. My own ship's communications proved quite useless. [Granted, his own ship had crashed spectacularly, but somehow he didn't think that was to blame.]

It would appear that is the case. I am fascinated enough by the fact that my own communicator seems to have been modified.

[He is tempted to take it apart to see how the modifications had been done exactly, but he is uncertain he could find the correct tools to do so without permanently damaging the device.]

I am Commander Spock. With whom am I speaking?

[Another Commander. His smile deepens, slightly.]

It's a pleasure, Commander. I'm the Doctor.

[He tips his hat. The shift in movement reveals his bandaged shoulder.]

[Spock nods respectfully, noticing the bandaged arm but saying nothing.]

Doctor. You have your own ship? You did not arrive with the others?

[This is... something new.]
