My name is Ianto Jones. I understand that this is obviously not Cardiff, and that there is obviously some sort of illness going around. Can't say I appreciate the unexpected trip, or the not so great timing of the Rift...

If there is a Jack Harkness or a Gwen Cooper about, or if anyone has seen or heard anyone by these names - one's a man in a big flashy coat, almost as flash as the man himself, the other is a Welshwoman, I would appreciate hearing of it. 

Thank you for the help, I understand this can't be a good time to ask - but anything else about this place that anyone can tell me, or what is going on, I would also be grateful.

We're unfortunately short on ultimate solutions at this point, although work is progressing. But what we're looking at is a bioengineered strain of the Black Plague that contains the DNA for a virus inside it. Don't ask me how -- I just manage scientists sometimes, I'm not one myself.

So, if you catch the plague and if you recover from it, either from antibiotic treatment or because you're lucky, then you get to deal with a second infection, caused by the virus that's escaped from the dead plague germs. It's nasty, it's gone epidemic, and the city is getting a little... stretched.

Sounds like I was brought here during a not so great time. [ the black plaque. They'd had it in Cardiff for a while, with the Rift and all. It doesn't sound the same, exactly. ]

To be honest, [says Pepper with the ruefulness of tone that says that yes, she knows nobody ever says that when it's prefacing something pleasant,] if it wasn't bioengineered Black Death then you might've shown up in the middle of a violent raid, or during a psychogenic fog.

Great tourist destination, basically.

Sounds lovely. I wouldn't want to take my vacation anywhere where there is a chance of being bored and getting to relax a bit, after all.

If it's not half of Cardiff being blown up, or all children freezing in place at once, it's another thing.

Cardiff... paired with explosions and strangeness, I'm sorry if I'm prying, but do you know a Ms. Sato at all? Toshiko Sato?

Well, then you're one of the lucky ones, Mr. Jones. You've got someone from your own reality, or something close to it, already here. Tosh has been working on understanding some of the Ship's systems. I'm sure she'll be delighted to see a familiar face.
