While I'm aware that english, or at least a variation on it, is the language most used here I'm curious what other ones people know or are more comfortable with at the very least. I'm familiar with quite a few so if there's one you'd prefer speaking in I'm more than willing to oblige.

A language barrier shouldn't be a reason for us to be unable to work together and if anyone wishes to learn a language I'm more than willing to teach.

I'm also wondering if anyone skilled with a sword could use a sparring partner, I seem to be short one.

Well, so long as they're animals native to Earth anyway. it's both magical and... not. If you think it's possible then it is and I can teach you.

[Yep. That's how the magic he knows works.]

There are different dialects, but I can certainly teach you wolf.

I imagine we could work something out, and being a werewolf myself I suppose I ought to have an affinity, anyway. Splendid, thank you. What about domesticated canines? Do they all speak different languages, as well, or is there overlap?

[Because he has two large hounds he'd also love to be able to communicate with in wolf form, okay?]

It tends to all be similar with creatures that share a common ancestor, like french and spanish have a common ancestor in latin. It'll be easier since you understand the body language side of things already.

Well, one can hope. I haven't had to learn a new language in decades, I may be a bit out of practice. How did you come to learn so many languages, if you don't mind my asking?

Time, and a bit of magic.

It helps that I'm capable of taking the shape of any of them, and it's... part of the job description to know them as well.

[Hey, you've really got his interest now, Kozmotis. Lyall has been lacking hunting partners for a long time, Atticus being all he has left.]

There aren't many other shapeshifters around, it's a pleasure to find another one. Do you spend much time in other shapes, or only at need? Does it affect your mind at all, or do you remain cognizant of yourself and what you're doing?

I spend as much time as I want to in them, as necessity or the sheer joy of it. Some things become easier or more difficult but I am very much so still who I am. The shape or nature of a body doesn't change that someone is a person, bodies change all the time.

[professorwolf]

I'd rather let him share that, if he'd like to. I have to respect his privacy.

[He sounds apologetic, but firm, on that, and quite readily moves to the other subject.]

That has not always been the case, in my experience. Werewolves have to work to earn their minds back, in wolf form, on my version of Earth. So I thought it best to ask rather than to assume. So you do have wolf form, then, if you speak the language?

[He's rather understanding of not wanting people parading around your personal stuff.]

Of course, any of the various different subspecies of Canis lupus to be perfectly honest. I am however, partial to the dire wolf for general purposes.

[Lyall chuckles a bit.]

You'll be quite a bit larger than I am, then. Though I'm used to that.

[Even Atticus is bigger than he is, as a hound. It would be embarrassing if he hadn't long since gotten accustomed to being so small.]

Well, if you ever want for a hunting partner, I'm out in the mountains or the forests most evenings. And I am a bit hopeful about this wolf language.

[It's one of those 'go big or go home' sort of things, he usually does it for intimidation.]

Feel free to come by whenever you wish, I've begun setting up residence in the wood between the two cities. I'm sure you'll be able to find the place.

I wouldn't mind a good hunt with a partner.

[And poor Lyall is incapable of intimidation in either form. Ah, well. He works with what he has. There's a smile in his voice when he replies again.]

Excellent. Shall we set a date, then? I can only shapeshift after dark, though at least at that point you won't be in any danger of being too busy.
