While I'm aware that english, or at least a variation on it, is the language most used here I'm curious what other ones people know or are more comfortable with at the very least. I'm familiar with quite a few so if there's one you'd prefer speaking in I'm more than willing to oblige.

A language barrier shouldn't be a reason for us to be unable to work together and if anyone wishes to learn a language I'm more than willing to teach.

I'm also wondering if anyone skilled with a sword could use a sparring partner, I seem to be short one.

[Elissa sharply glances over to Pitch as she overhears his message. She is holding a platter of fire-roasted venison that she's been madly stuffing into her mouth as if she is a starving dog. She's frowning as she finishes chewing what is in her mouth and swallows it.]

Did you ask that simply because I don't have weapons? When I get my equipment back, I will gladly spar with you.

[Slender fingers pinch up another bite of venison and load it into her mouth.]

It's also a way of seeing who is capable with one here, and allows me to possibly take note of the sorts of fighters we have here.

Let's go with German, that's rather common right?]

I've, apparently, been working with some of the metalsmiths in town so not only do I have access to weapons we might use but I have had no one to test my sword against in far too long myself.

What we are speaking is called English on your Planet? [She tilted her head.] That's... kind of odd. We just call it Common on Gaia. Unimaginative, I suppose, but it is a common tongue spoken by everyone but the Wutai, who speak Wutaian. I'm a little rusty with that language myself, but it's quite beautiful to listen to.

I'm skilled with a sword. Normally, I spar with other SOLDIER First Class as they're of the same skill and power level, but if you're of that level or more, I'd be more than happy to spar with you. [She's not about to underestimate someone just because they're from another Planet. Atticus was a testimony to that.]

Interesting, though I suppose it's not too surprising considering we look enough alike to be from a similar planet.

[Not that Earth is his native planet either.]

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that division or rank, but I'm willing to at least try. There's no harm in getting knocked to the ground after all.

Well, I remember a little Dutch from when I was a kid, but Ma usually didn't play it up. She was trying to be Miss Canada when I was a kid.

But yeah, anyway, I got my wakizashi. Mostly only used it to slice up monsters, but I'm always up for a little sparring, even if I'm better goin' hand to hand.

Dutch is a fine language, and I'm rather fond of the Netherlands as well.

[Canada isn't quite a thing yet for him, and neither is America.]

It's been a while since I've done much hand to hand, so I wouldn't mind doing either with you.

I know a fair bit of Norwegian, and I can swear in a dozen different alien languages. We primarily use translators to get by where I'm from, so more than that isn't entirely needed.

If you name a modern language from Earth I can probably speak it to some degree.
I also know how to read some older languages.

That depends on how you define modern and older, anything within the past 400 years is relatively modern for me.

I'm familiar with all known human languages, dead or otherwise, and animal ones! Well, at least current animal ones. I'm afraid I can't speak something like, say, dinosaur.

I don't know you already have filled the position of a sparring partner, but I'm definitely interested! Unfortunately, I'm lacking my swords so I may need to borrow one from you or someone else.

Well, I speak Mandarin. Just about everyone speaks both where I'm from.

Interesting, I would've thought there'd be a few more similarities between the two languages than english and mandarin.

The language you're speaking right now, though not referred to as 'English', is the most wide-spread and common in the lands I have known on my world.

There's a second language in my homeland, though. I believe it's mostly the same as something someone here referred to as 'Mandarin'.

Interesting, and I hope it's safe to assume you're not from the same place as them correct?

[It's more interesting than troubling that there's so much overlap in language.]

You'd think there'd be less in common with so many different worlds.

I know various languages, though I would't call myself fluent in any of them. I know enough Spanish, Portuguese and Hindi to get by, among other things.

That's quite a variety, though effective communication is a bit more important than perfect fluency.
