[Koz can't do much with the storm going on so he's going to make some conversation with the people at large here.]

While I'm aware that english, or at least a variation on it, is the language most used here I'm curious what other ones people know or are more comfortable with at the very least. I'm familiar with quite a few so if there's one you'd prefer speaking in I'm more than willing to oblige.

A language barrier shouldn't be a reason for us to be unable to work together and if anyone wishes to learn a language I'm more than willing to teach.

[There's a pause.]

I'm also wondering if anyone skilled with a sword could use a sparring partner, I seem to be short one.

[Elissa sharply glances over to Pitch as she overhears his message. She is holding a platter of fire-roasted venison that she's been madly stuffing into her mouth as if she is a starving dog. She's frowning as she finishes chewing what is in her mouth and swallows it.]

Did you ask that simply because I don't have weapons? When I get my equipment back, I will gladly spar with you.

[Slender fingers pinch up another bite of venison and load it into her mouth.]

[He chuckles a little, setting the almost delicate looking gold and blue device beside him.]

[He rips off a bite of his own, chews and swallows.]

It's also a way of seeing who is capable with one here, and allows me to possibly take note of the sorts of fighters we have here.

[And Atticus picks a language at random to throw at Koz, just to see what he knows. So here, have something he hasn't spoken in awhile and is not a damned Slavic language.

Let's go with German, that's rather common right?]

I've, apparently, been working with some of the metalsmiths in town so not only do I have access to weapons we might use but I have had no one to test my sword against in far too long myself.

[German? Really, that's easy and while it's a bit formal and probably a tad out of date it's german.]

Really now. What sort of things are they working on?

What sort of a blade to you use, if you don't mind my asking.

[Elissa speaks around a mouthful of the meat, foregoing manners as her belly might actually end up *sated* since she arrived in this place.]

There's Thor with his hammer. I've wanted a go at him, myself, if he'll consent to sparring.

[Only with her mouth full will she consent to using contractions. Usually, that isn't her manner of speech at all.]

And Haruka, but I dare not ask her for anything at this point.

[Swallowing, realization dawns upon the young woman and she wipes at her mouth as she gives Koz a frown.]

What we are speaking is called English on your Planet? [She tilted her head.] That's... kind of odd. We just call it Common on Gaia. Unimaginative, I suppose, but it is a common tongue spoken by everyone but the Wutai, who speak Wutaian. I'm a little rusty with that language myself, but it's quite beautiful to listen to.

I'm skilled with a sword. Normally, I spar with other SOLDIER First Class as they're of the same skill and power level, but if you're of that level or more, I'd be more than happy to spar with you. [She's not about to underestimate someone just because they're from another Planet. Atticus was a testimony to that.]

Well, I remember a little Dutch from when I was a kid, but Ma usually didn't play it up. She was trying to be Miss Canada when I was a kid.

But yeah, anyway, I got my wakizashi. Mostly only used it to slice up monsters, but I'm always up for a little sparring, even if I'm better goin' hand to hand.

[What can she say? She prefers injuring people more personally.]

I know a fair bit of Norwegian, and I can swear in a dozen different alien languages. We primarily use translators to get by where I'm from, so more than that isn't entirely needed.

[Atticus' German isn't the most modern either, though 70 years really isn't a big difference. It is easy though and the fact that Koz's is a bit older makes Atticus cock an eyebrow. Oh really. Sir, he knows a few reasons to talk like that and most of them involve not aging normally.]

A lot of things, actually. Things for the ship sometimes. Requests are fairly common. I've been showing them a few different styles of blades they can do as I'm experienced with quite a variety.

If you name a modern language from Earth I can probably speak it to some degree.
I also know how to read some older languages.

--if you do not mind pitting your mettle against a hammer, I would be happy to practice with you. I will be careful with my swing, I know I can be more powerful than most are used to.

Mending bridges with Miss Haruka is certainly in your best interests, her and the other bossy fellow seem to want to be in charge of things.

I know I could hurt you, Elissa. I could likely hurt and even kill most anyone here relatively easily, I simply see no reason to show my hand in that regard until necessary.

All the more reason to spar with me. I can only improve, if I test myself against those with more skill.

I see. So they aren't proper weaponsmiths then, I'll have to remember not to break mine or anyone else's then.

I'd be happy to spar with you, though I don't think it wise to do so until the weather improves. I'll even provide a meal as part of the occasion so long as you don't mind it being cooked over a campfire.

Interesting, though I suppose it's not too surprising considering we look enough alike to be from a similar planet.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that division or rank, but I'm willing to at least try. There's no harm in getting knocked to the ground after all.

Dutch is a fine language, and I'm rather fond of the Netherlands as well.

[Canada isn't quite a thing yet for him, and neither is America.]

It's been a while since I've done much hand to hand, so I wouldn't mind doing either with you.

It's been a while since I've spoken anything not native to Earth.

Should warn yah, I don't pull a lotta punches.

That depends on how you define modern and older, anything within the past 400 years is relatively modern for me.

Approximately years 2010-2095.
I can read some of the dead languages a little bit
Enough to verify the translations of older books.
I also know some domestic cat, dog, and songbird.
And a little bit of fox, but that is a tricky language.

I wouldn't mind at all, knowing how to handle opponents with different weapons is a good thing.

If you can manage to win in hand to hand I'll consider it, alright?
