[What begins as merely trying to catch a meteor on record for his own personal interest and for various friends rather quickly became something else entirely. And Lyall spent a few minutes afterwards figuring out how to upload what he caught on his device onto the network.

So everyone gets a nice video of the second two thirds of that falling object's trajectory, and a couple seconds of the beginnings of a warm glow on the horizon. Then they get Lyall coming on the screen right after. He's out in the more local woods, dressed only in his coat, and looking a little bit rumpled, for once. His voice, however, is a bit deadpan as he speaks to the practical and pointedly doesn't mention the bit about the thing from space.]

I believe there may be a fire starting in the western forest. If there are still Authorities monitoring this channel, someone may wish to be dispatched to contain it, unless there isn't much risk of it spreading too far.

Professor? Do you happen to know if the Authorities came to stop the fire last night?

I'm afraid they did not. Between fire-fighting not being in their job descriptions and the fact that it rains at least once a day, lately, they really weren't too terribly concerned about the fire. There may be someone dispatched to investigate after the fire dies down, but not until then.

I see. No chance of it spreading down this way then, right?

I believe they would have been much more alarmed, if so. I believe Poseidon is safe, and I can't think of any actual settlements in between. Too many dinosaurs in the way.

Hmm. You don't think those dinosaurs will all flee south, do you?

Or east, I suppose. It's possible, depending on how long the fire lasts, and probably something to be looked into come morning.

It looks like there will be a few people heading out to have a look of their own, though I'm not entirely sure when, or exactly who.

It could be dangerous, though. Whoever goes out there should have a medic along just in case.

[And what better medic than Nurse Chapel?]

I'd better see who's going and if I can tag along with them.

Loki and Thor Odinson supposedly have plans, so far, and apparently Luke Skywalker is also interested. I imagine there will be more.

Of course. It tends to slip my mind that you're on a different schedule from myself.

Easy to do, really. Most people expect others to conform to their own schedules, and have to make an effort to recall any deviances.

[And Lyall is just used to it, anyhow, so he certainly isn't taking any offense.]

Back on the ship -- my ship, I mean -- we had rotating eight hour shifts: Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. Though sometimes something would come up, like a patient we wanted to personally monitor, so we'd mess up our own schedules and get off track.

[He looks amused. Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, huh? He has to wonder which is which, and whether he would be awake for the "Beta" shift.]

And why did you decide to pick those names for them? Is the Greek common for nomenclature?

Maybe Starfleet wanted to add some Old World charm. But really, it's just as easy to say 'day shift, swing shift, and night shift,' so I'm not sure as to their reasoning.

So "Beta" shift would be late afternoon to, say, midnight? And then "Gamma" shift would be midnight until morning? How amusing. -- Ah, to explain, in werewolf packs, the leader is called the Alpha, the second is called the Beta, and the third the Gamma. Hence my amusement.

[She looks amused right back.]

Thinking our shifts were named after you guys?

Ah, nothing quite so personal. I simply found the coincidence amusing. Adding a little Greek or Latin does seem to add a little flair to any title, wouldn't you say?

[Now he's definitely joking a bit.]

I'd say so.
