That's bad enough, but we have this plant shop and he was really the one who knew anything about how to actually run it. I'm decent at growing plants, but I've only been selling them for a few weeks now. I could... really use some help. I don't think I can run it just on my own.

It would be helpful to have someone who actually lives here, but you could also just ask them. From my admittedly limited observations, we shipfolk tend to form a loose but persistent alliance. I certainly find it a bit easier to cooperate that way. Hmm.

I guess the one thing we all have in common is we don't have a lot in common with the locals.

Ship people would probably be more patient too.

At least they understand when I don't necessarily know how everything works. Uh, the not business stuff.

True. I don't think I've met anyone yet who understood magic and science, let alone the variations within those, and of course all our contexts are entirely different.

I definitely only know magic, and a lot of people here talk about really different ways of doing stuff.

As do I, though I've been trying to make a study of other options while I'm here. Might as well accomplish something.

I'm still trying to figure out all the Muggle things they have here.

Oh, it means... not magic. I'm not really used to it.

Ah, I see why, then. I can't think what use we'd have for such a word at home.

None of the other places with magic seem to use it.

[And Loki's interest is piqued anew. Stores are all well and good, but magic is important.]

Are you a sorcerer yourself, then? Or just around a lot of them. I don't know anything to speak of about human magics...

I'm a wizard... well, I'm learning to be one, anyway. I still have two years of school left.

[Human lifespans will never cease to amaze him. Two years? He winds up being a bit vague.]

I'm fairly advanced in my own apprenticeship. For my age, in any case. I don't know how that relates at all.

What do you mean?

I don't know how an apprenticeship would compare to formal schooling in magic, assuming you work on the same sort of model they have here? As I said, my knowledge of human magic is really quite limited, and there are plenty of complicating factors. I've passed basic spellcasting and mostly worked my way through elementals, though without my tutor I've been falling terribly behind while I've been here.

Asgardian. I'm aware I don't look any different, and no, I don't have any idea why that should be, but it is quite convenient if one is inclined to visit Midgard. Or fit in without incurring funny looks around here, at that.

I don't suppose you'd be interested in trading information? When you've time away from your shop, that is. Even if each of us only has a student's understanding of the subject.

We could compare... as long as I don't have to talk about potions.

Tisn't my subject, either. Most of the interesting alchemy doesn't even begin until journeyman levels, in any case.

I'm just rubbish at them. Herbology's my best subject, but I do alright at charms and defense.

There you are, then. I haven't any particular skill with plants. They all look rather the same to me. But yes, we ought to trade spells a bit.
