First Dream [Video, Open]

[Who believes in dream spirits? To anyone who does, the video screen flicks on to a smiling face framed by wild golden hair. Sandy squints at the screen for a moment, then perks up and waves once he realizes the camera's on. Everyone else? Just sees Poseidon from the top of what appears to be one of the taller buildings.]

[Unfortunately, Sandy doesn't have any practice communicating by text. The little pictures aren't very helpful to anyone who doesn't already know him, but they certainly aren't like anything else on the network, either.]

[Pretty good guess, Akito! Sandy perks up when he recognizes the boy and waves again. He gestures encouragingly. How had he been doing?]

[Sandy thinks for a moment. Oh, he's never good at small talk. After a minute, he pointed at Akito through the screen, gave him a thumbs up, then a question mark popped up over his head.]

[Because the Dark One can of course see spirits, regardless of what they actually do. He peers at the little golden man with visible curiosity.]

[Oh, good! Someone else who can see him! Sandy grins excitedly and bounces as he waves a greeting. He bit his finger as he thought for a moment, then pointed to himself significantly. Then rested his head on his hand and closed his eyes for a moment, miming sleep. Over his head, whimsical golden shapes popped up - flowers and horses and starbursts and animals. Then he 'woke up' and gestured at Rumple hopefully. Did he understand?]

[He's not quite making the connection to "Sandman", though he will before too long, especially once he realizes that golden stuff is sand. This is just his first guess.]

[Yes, that's technically true. Sandy nods encouragingly. Then he pulls on his sand-goggles and takes out a little sand-hammer, and mimes working on something. When he opens his hands, a burst of golden butterflies trail up and hover over his head a moment, before dwindling.

He figures the question about not speaking will answer itself.]

[Rumple is more interested in that golden stuff than he is what Sandy is actually trying to say, which is probably less of a problem than it otherwise could be. Still, he picks up enough to guess:]

You craft dreams. How interesting... what is that you're... crafting with...?

[And then, then it hits him. He looks skeptical, but what else could it be?]

Don't tell me. The sandman...?

[Sandy jumps up and down joyfully, pumping his fists in a silent cheer. Then he gives Rumple a thumbs up and nodded, in case he didn't quite catch on that he'd guessed correctly. Jack hadn't even had to introduce him! It was strange to meet people who didn't know who he was, despite being able to see him, but it wasn't nearly as difficult as he'd feared.]

[Can everyone see him? Adults, even? This is delightful! Sandy happily abandons the text-images in favor of his usual mode of communication. He bowed a little, tipping a bowler hat that appears in his hand one moment, disappears the next.

After pondering a minute, he keeps things simple. He scoops up a neat little pile of dreamsand from the air around him, holds it aloft, and lets it trickle through his fingers slowly. He gestures to it with his free hand as it falls. If she can see him, maybe she knows enough about the legends to catch its significance.]

[Sandy nods at the first guess, then more vigorously, grinning. Yes, sand, exactly! And, because it worked for the other nice gentleman who didn't recognize him, he tosses the sand over himself, then mimes sleeping. Complete with dancing shapes and little 'z's floating over his head.]

[The little man grins and bows again, more elaborately this time. Yes, exactly! He hops up on a cloud of dreamsand, riding on it effortlessly.]

What in the hell is this?

[That's in Japanese, by the way. The Sandman can probably understand it, though he might be a bit surprised to see the Japanese teenager is blonde with blue-green eyes.]

[He can't tell whether the strange teenager can see him or not, but he's leaning towards not. He waves anyhow, just in case. Wouldn't do to be rude. He doesn't translate the Japanese, exactly, he just... happens to know what she's saying.]

[Sandy pokes at his communicator, making the scenery - that's all that Haruka can see - jiggle. There had to be some way to make this more efficient. He finally finds something that might work.]
