[If he was aware of his powers, chances were he wasn't part of the experiment. While it was a relief, it was also disappointing not to find another like her.]

Then what do we need to worry about? Are these riots and f-fires a common occurrence?

No. We don't know what happened, but Mage Gift is gone in Valdemar, though, we are learning, it's alive and well in other places. Now, though, Valdemar only has MindGifts.
