[ Okay, so he's not wearing a shirt. But he's got his pants and gun belt on, weapons all secure so there's that at least. And he's pissed as he glares at the damn device. ]

[ Pause. Shrug. The device is tucked into his pocket. ]

Takin' the gorram thing anyway. If folks're gonna be dumb enough ta leave their things with mine, I ain't lookin' ta give it back. Nice lookin' anyhow. Sell it fer somethin'.

[ Pause. There's shuffling as he puts on his shirt. ]

Right. Got 'em all.

[ Pause. ]

Now where's the gorram ship?

[The background is somewhere else on the same ship. There's a bit of grease on Kaylee's nose as somehow always manages to happen when she's working.]

Jayne? It's a long story. You still where ya woke up?

[ Kaylee? Jayne turns and she's not there. Blinking. Then he pulls the device from his pocket and looks at it. Oh, she's on that screen. So it works like the ship's communication then? ]

[ Pause. Jayne looks around before realizing the voice came from his pocket. He pulls it back out and looks at it. ]

I wouldn't, uh, get rid of that, bro. Might be the only way you got to talk to people if yer in trouble or somethin'.

[ It'll take a minute before Jayne gets to looking. He still thinks there's people in the room with him instead of them talking on the device. Weird thing. ]

Trouble? There trouble here?

[ He wants action. Tell him there's trouble. ]

Sure, sometimes. We had a riot a couple weeks ago. There were bone monsters before that. An' we went time travelin' before that.

[As he talks, he counts things on his fingers.]

It's kinda quiet, right now, though. I guess that's cuz of the curfew or somethin'.

[Finally, someone who looks like her kind of people. ...Not necessarily someone she'd get along with, or not have to shoot sometime, but she gets tired of tiptoeing around her more violent propensities in polite company. She props up her communicator on the bed so her hands stay free to finish cleaning a revolver that looks much too big for her when she answers.]

[ Jayne looks around first before realizing the voice is coming from his communicator. Again. God he really wasn't ever going to get use to this, was he? But that pretty girl on the other side - he could get use to that. ]

[While the word Alliance is so vague it could mean anything, it has a weight that matches the way she says Enclave.]

[He looks like he might need the advice, and she's never really lived down the pointing a gun at fellow ship-folk incident. Incidents. Whatever.]

[In the video portion Andros is there, arched eyebrow, arms folded in front, looking as if he's convinced this guy is the biggest idiot he's ever seen. Okay, maybe not the biggest. Those are some massive shoes to fill. But he's up there.

You realize your comm is on right?

[Yup. Andros totally thought Jayne was a dumbass. But if Jayne's paying attention to the background it looks like Andros is also on the ship.]

[ There's a pause. Then Jayne takes out the device and stares at it. He's not mad at it or nothing, he's just not use to it. ]

No. Ain't sure how it got turned on. Ain't worried 'bout it neither.

[Andros shrugged and sighed.]

I can come find you and show you how to use it. If you want.

[Honestly, he'd rather not.]

[The captain looks displeased but it's not necessarily directed at Jayne, he's just not right with even more of his crew being trapped here. Even without Serenity he feels responsible for them.]

[ There's a pause as Jayne looks around the room. Then he gets the device out. This is really gonna take some time to get use to. ]

What'da mean she ain't here? Ain't it was got us here in the first place? And I ain't on the ship, Mal. In someplace different. Got these gorram case things that hold people. Ain't like the one that held that crazy girl neither.

[Well. That answers that question. Mal rolls his eyes and tries to remain patient. At least Jayne managed to figure out how to use his comm device. That's something.]

No, Jayne. You're on a ship. It ain't Serenity and it ain't nowhere near home. We just gotta make do for now.

Listen, don't go wanderin' that ship. It don't take kindly to that and folk get lost sometimes so you just get out and find the road what leads to town, you hear me?

Actually there is. We use it to issue warnings and keep in touch. Better that than get blindsided by the next weird storm or whatever kriffing bizarre thing happens next around here.

[Zevran is not a frequent member of the welcoming committee that seems to form around new arrivals on the network, but the elf is nothing if not capricious and something about Jane and his priorities suggests entertainment can be found. Thus, a comm call pings in with a view of what probably looks like some core dandy wealthy enough to have his ears modded to points. The elf's found himself a sunny rooftop where the wind takes care of most of the summer's heat, and a bottle of wine is helping to soothe away the rest.]

And what kind of 'something' would you be selling your new find for, ser? I must commend your ability to grasp the market of this world so rapidly.
