The Spring Equinox is coming up
And the city is getting ready for preparations

I am turning 100 years old this Equinox
Which is an important birthday
At least for spirits
I think

I don't know much about birthday celebrations
And the city looks like it will be having its own big party (???)
So I was wondering if anyone would like to
Hang out with me during the equinox?
For a little while maybe
If it is not too much trouble!!

[ he comes up short at Jack's question, momentarily baffled. his confusion slowly leeches away to slight anxiety - what did he know about parties? certainly not enough to have one himself. ]

Ah, I just wanted some company! I didn't want to spend it alone... I wasn't thinking of a party. Should I have one?

That's quite the birthday you have, Akito. At least you're not likely to forget it in another few centuries?

[Atticus is actually a little worried about this upcoming festival. It would only be right to honor Brighid but... well... for one thing he's supposed to be dead as far as she's concerned. He's not entirely sure how that works when he's on another planet but he's not entirely sure he wants to find out.

For another thing the Equinox would be the perfect time for a magic boost that would let him connect to Tir Na nOg. After what happened last time he used a lot of his power, well, he's not so sure that's a good idea. Of course there's no time issues this time but still...]

I'm going to be uh... pretty busy for part of the day. But if you wanted a place in town to throw a little birthday bash you're welcome to use my place.

Are you going to be celebrating, um... Alban Eilir? [ and he totally messed up that pronunciation sorry atticus HE TRIED. ] And I don't know how to throw a party, but if people are going to keep me company on my birthday I should have one, ne?

[ sounds so unsure and awkward because he's never done this sort of thing before. sob. ]

Definitely! Which languages?

I knew Japanese and English to start
And a little bit of Korean, Russian, and Mandarin.
So I have learned all of those fluently
Plus Cantonese, Filipino, Taiwanese
Latin, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazilian)
Arabic, Greek, Hebrew, Gaelic, German, Dutch
Icelandic, Egyptian, and a few more human languages.
Domestic cat, domestic dog, songbird
And some small lizard and owl.
My pronunciation in some of them is really bad
And then there are other languages I can read but not write or speak.

You're the first person from somewhere else that actually knows Mandarin!

That is surprising!
Considering how many people speak it on Earth
And how many people here are from some version of Earth.

Not sure why you would be considered a baby in the first place. Young, sure, but not really a baby considering what you can do.

Having company over is a party. What you actually do in it is up to you. Have some music, play some games, eat cake, I dunno. Whatever you want to do. It really all depends on how many people you want over. If it's gonna be a lot, then a party is pretty much what it'll be. Anything less than five people is generally just a get together, but still a celebration anyway.

I think it's because I don't ever fight. So other spirits would sometimes beat me up and I wouldn't fight back, which I guess they thought was because I was too much of a baby to know how to fight...

[ he isn't exactly sure, but he supposes it's probably a mixture of that as well as his age. ]

Oh! Um... So I will be having a get-together. But I'll have to have it somewhere that isn't my home, since my home is too small for more than two people.

What do animals talk about mostly?

I guess most folk here are from before it became normal for just about everyone to know English and Mandarin or something.

Food and mating season
Though the domestic animals will talk about their owners as well.

It only really started to be common for Mandarin to be offered in European and North American schools
A couple of decades ago.

It was super common by the time we all went into space.

The furthest humans have gotten in space in my time
Has been to the moon in 1969
Since then people have gone to the international space station
But there has not been any further space exploration with astronauts.

Do people still live on Earth??

No, we left Earth-That-Was a long time ago. Just couldn't hold us all anymore.

So no one lives there anymore?

Not so far as I know. Never was very good in history class.

If you want to have people over for your birthday then you should definitely have a party. What kind of party is the big question though. [Though somehow he thinks that Akito is the type to have a small private type gathering.] Maybe we can set up a picnic table somewhere and just...hang out and tell stories, eat good food. Story-telling is kind of a tradition for the spring equinox in a lot of cultures.

A picnic? That sounds good..! [ he's seen people have them many times, but hasn't had one himself before. ~~unless having one on your own and playing pretend counts.~~ ] What kind of food is good food? I've only ever eaten the stuff people throw out.

I hope our Earths are different ones.
Space travel sounds wonderful
But if Earth is abandoned then most of the spirits will die.
