I've heard about the collars that neutralize a person's magical abilities.
Do they still use those in this new Verdana?
If so, how do they react when used on a non-human?
Are they turned human too or are their abilities simply taken away?

They do still have them. I wore one for my first full moon back. As far as I can tell, it will simply cut you off from any non-human abilities, not change anything physically about you. It did not, for example, make my body temperature and breathing rate go up to that of a normal mortal, but it did take away my ability to heal quickly.

Others call them gods.

Anything not something a typical mortal would do, as far as I can tell. So yes.

That's not how the many worlds priciple works. You people need to stop citing it with the assumption that it backs up ridiculous and unscientific claims.

I haven't cited any principle.
Magic is widely considered to simply be science that has yet to be understood.
I can't say that I understand how my existence aligns with current scientific theories and the laws of physics
But the fact that you deny the existence of something from a different, parallel universe than yours

The mutant gene that people here have been describing makes no sense to me
But I'm not about to go around denying their existence as what they are.
If they say they are mutants then that's what they are.

It is the closest thing I have ever found to explain our existence in my world

Why not? I heard about them not long after I got here, and they're something that could potentially be a threat to us.

I tried to hypothesize what might happen to a spirit that is constrained by one, and came up with three different ideas: first, that it would just take away our abilities - both passive and otherwise; second, that it would turn us human again; and third: it would kill us.

Well, yeah, but they were only used if other people were a threat. They wouldn't use it on us if we weren't causing trouble.

Not like they could anyway...

There's no guarantee of that, so I want to learn all that I can about them so that we can be better prepared if things go really badly.

...what are you expecting to go badly? Other than possibly Pitch being here, I don't think making wind or a little frost or taking kids' teeth under a pillow is going to be that alarming.

I wasn't expecting the time travel or ending up in that... that place [ he shudders, remembering how shitty it was in nowhere ] either.

The collars are the only thing I can think of that would be cause for any worry that doesn't involve spacial and temporal displacement.

I had narrowed it down to 3 possibilities
1 - it would essentially turn us into humans/mortals again
2 - it would simply take away our abilities
3 - it would kill us

So it is nice to have some confirmation otherwise.

I don't think it's something you really have to worry about much. That was something the Outer Authorities used but... we're kind of playing on the same team now.

Akito - no! I know nothing of these collars, but I cannot imagine that you would wish to subject yourself to one of them. Please use discretion when discussing such things lest you bring harm to yourself. I would be very sad, if you were injured.

That said - can you possibly forgive me for missing the party to celebrate your birth? There were... circumstances beyond my control.

I don't think it would kill you, thankfully. Though I wouldn't be too alarmed. I have yet to find any natives who can actually see you and the rest, so collaring you isn't really likely.

Since I am not 100% sure if my body is supported entirely by magic or not there's still a small possibility that it could kill me.
But either way
It's good to know the collars would just be an inconvenience instead of harmful!
